Brief Description of Teaching  Approach Used by the Teacher:
Direct instruction (lecture) - this method can cover large amount of materials/instruction in a short period of time.
Brain based (laboratory) - this method of teaching involves the students in real-life or authentic problem solving just like what they are doing in their laboratory class

Comments on Appropriateness of the Teaching Aids used
  • White board

  • Handouts

  • Reference Textbook

  • Laboratory Tools and Equipment's

Easier to hold and does not generate dust

Aid learning and increase attention and motivation and help students to follow the development of idea.

Could be react for instruction, recreation or entertainment

Hands-on activities gives better learning to students.
The white board background can cause problems to those with vision impairment

This is a role of no confidence in students note taking, some of them may feel cheated because they took notes unnecessarily.

Dependent about the ideas that is written in the book. Students does not tend to look for other sources.

Some students are to dependent with their classmate especially with group activities.
Using of white board is effective to use because it does not generate dust that comes from using and erasing chalks

Using handouts or not is an act of management not simply of information-giving

Using books are effective to use as an instructional tool because it makes students to focus, think and understand clearly about the lesson.

Using tools and Equipment's are effective to use because it can develop the manipulative skills of the students.

Your Analysis

What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/learning resources that she/he used?

At this time, teachers have a wide a choices on what instructional materials to use. However, when I visited the classroom and observed what instructional materials or teaching aids that was used by the teacher the most common instructional materials used are the white board, handouts, and books. think the teacher used those instructional materials because she thought that it would be more effective to use those things or strategies and maybe using ICT resources was suitable for the lesson discussed to the class.

What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How can this be manage?

A teacher should facilitate an evaluative process by focusing students’ attention in the effectiveness and efficiency usage of instructional materials. Based on the observation, the teacher experienced the difficulty especially students showing restlessness or boredom to the lesson that was discussed. So, it is often helpful for a teacher to show genuine interest to the lesson presented to the students. Or if not, she need to change her strategies in teaching, aside from using visual aid, it’s better to use a power point presentation/ a video because it attracts students look and attention.

Over-all were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why? Why not?

Over-all the learning materials was somehow used effectively in the class discussion. But during the discussion some students show boredom. The students can’t focus on the class discussion because they’ll feel bored looking the learning materials used. There is a need to enhance the ways or strategies that the teacher should apply in giving a lesson to the class. With the use of technology like power point presentation or a video that can create a meaningful learning that is transmitted to the students effectively.

Your Reflection

Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what would you do differently if you will teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why?

The thing that I will do similarly is giving students hands-on activities. Activities using manipulative skills helps better learning of the students. Students become independent and they also develop self-esteem as they do their activities.

The thing that I will do differently is to change the teaching strategy that was used by the teacher. I want to make the students or class lively and interactive in a way that the students won’t get bored in the class because that is the only or reason why students don’t want to listen to the discussions. I would also use technology in my discussion like having a video presentation to help the students focus on the lesson.
